Albuquerque
Highways
To my eye, the Interstate 40 & Interstate 25 interchange
in the heart of Albuquerque is one of the most beautiful urban roadways
in the county. The pinkish / tan and turquoise color palette compliments
both the aesthetic sensibilities and landscape of Albuquerque. It provides
a perfect visual compliment to the Sandia Mountains in the background.
The colors are rich in historical significance, borrowing turquoise from
the native Americans, and the tan/pink from the Sandias at sunset.
The design has a very clean, graceful look. You don't see exposed nuts,
bolts, or steel girders, only clean, crisp curves enhanced by the warm
color palette.
Anyone who visits me for the first time in Albuquerque always comment
favorably on the elegant look of this interchange. My compliments to the
designers and engineers for creating an artistic statement that is functional,
beautiful and an expression of Albuquerque style!
